What scan tools do you guys use?

I'll be putting the engine back in the S2000 next week sometime, and I'm bound to get a CEL after startup. I thought it would be a great time to go ahead and buy a scan tool. I'd like to keep it at $150 or less as well.

What have you guy had experience with or use on a daily basis? I don't need data logging or anything right now, nor am I concerned with pre-OBD2 access. Basically just want something with a decent sized screen(more than a couple lines of text) that will let me read and clear CELs and possibly view a few parameters.

I've been looking at a couple iphone/itouch based systems. I'm very interested in those, but I don't want to have to buy another tool if I get rid of this at some point.

I recently picked up the scangauge2. It will read and clear the codes and it also doubles as a gauge cluster of sorts with all kinds of different readings.

http://scangauge.com/ Autozone can order it for you and have it in a day or two.

I didn't see much in the way of automotive stuff when I searched for "nmap." I was looking at that scan gauge thing, how do you like it?? Lol @ at the Verus...I actually found a guy up here in Chicago that was selling a Snap-on MT2500 scanner for $250, but it was only updated to 1998.

I've been using a cheapie odb2/usb cable I picked up off eBay for ~$10 and ProScan 5.9. It's decent and I thought it would probably be better than any dedicated scanner I could find in that price range ($60 for software), just hook it up to my laptop and go. Obviously not a good option if you don't have a laptop/netbook or whatnot though

I looked at that aeroforce gauge on their website, but didn't notice any CEL reading/clearing etc...did I miss it? Cool looking deal otherwise..

I was actually pretty interested in the KiwiWifi deal. Any problems with it?

I use scan tools OBD Link V2.0. It kinda sux because it has a slower baud then a lot of other types of scanners but for $100 it was a good deal. Ill let my tuner use his better scanner which is when it matters most. Im pretty sure this one is still elm based. As for the software, I use Palmer performance ScanXL $150 plus the $50 gm addon which allows you to use the enhaced PIDS. The enhanced PIDS included knock sensor readings which is critical. It also allows me to plug in my AEM wideband and log that data as well. You can create custom dashboards with it and also export the scan data to excell.

I was going to recommend the AeroForce also, which can read/delete CEL, but you said not just a few lines of small text. A lot of people run those, at least in the 3800 world, and love them.

I have not personally used it, but on another forum I am on they are saying that this does basically all the same things as the scanguage, but many seemed to like its smaller profile better.

Ultraguage $59.95 (after $9 rebate)

DTC's (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) can be accessed and cleared via menu options. This essential feature will help the gauge to pay for itself the first time the check engine light comes on. Those that have modified their vehicle will find this very handy when a sensor, vacuum line, etc. has been inadvertently left disconnected, or something was just not put back together properly.
Yup, you missed it
