Throttle response

So let me get this started by saying i realize i don't have the most Ideal setup for AutoXing. I'm making do with what i've got. Car used to be a straightline car. Anyhow-----

I'm having issues with my car while coming out of the corners. I absolutely cannot modulate the throttle. It literally blows the tires off and makes the car slow.

Mods to the car- 10- psi pulley on 4 valve ken bell modular. 3.23 gears- torque arm, panhard bar, 315 wide rear tires, working trac-loc. HR race springs/ bilstein HD's. I wear extremely thin racing shoes to be able to feel the pedal completely.

My thoughts- drop down to a 5 psi pulley should cut close to 75 hp. Possibly looking for a different cam profile for my accufab throttle body. I looked at my current cam and it has a profile that would lead me to believe it is a very fast opening TB.

I broke down during the last event- busted my serpentine belt. A good friend offered to let me finish in her car. I think it was a 02 ws6. It had been lightly modded with straino springs and panhard bar, but still had cookie cutter 275's on it and probably was 300 rwhp. I was able to pick up 2 seconds a lap wit that car and i think it was due to the ability to modulate the throttle while cornering.

I guess i'm thinking aloud here but would like somebody to chime in with their thoughts.

Also INB4 gm fanboys. INB4 you suck as a driver. LOL

I would guess dropping the power levels a little might help. What tires are you running? Remember that compound > size most times.

Well, i'm not sure on the compound- treadwear rating is 200 and the tires are BFG KD. Not the KDW's. I'm just running in SMS class.

Well, my question is this- Most of our RWD guys are running NT05's. I'm sure you know they are a cross between nt555 and nt01. They have the same treadwear compound of 200 as my bfg KD's There can't be that much of a difference in them.

What autoX designed tires would you recommend?

There are a LOT of diffrences between 200 treadwear tires. Same with 140, and 160 treadwear tires.... just because that's what's stamped on the sidewall doesn't mean it's sticky. IMO, BFG's street tires are some of the hardest UHP tires on hte market regardless of their wear ratings.

And treadwear isn't really the only thing going, either.

Sidewall, pattern, shape, etc etc etc.

I'm assuming your setup has tons of mid-range... I'd just up-shift and try running it 1 gear higher than you normally do.

EXACTLY...... my RE-11's were soft as butter.... they are designed for auto x, "softer" than the stated treadwear... and when you shave them down, the way they designed the tread makes them practically r comps. correct tire is a huge piece to the auto x puzzle
