How did they do this?

I've been having a noise from my front brakes since I had them installed last summer. I finally got off my fat ass and redid the job myself. I found that on the driver's side they put the inside pad on the outside and the inside on the out (the only diff is that the outside pad has 2 wear indicators and the inside 1). Doesn't sound like much, but the reason there is only one indicator used on the inside is that the second one doesn't fit!
And on the passenger side.....
I don't have a clue how this pad ended up like this. (And no I didn't mess it up taking it out. This is how they installed it!)

That's the kind of talent you bring to the table, my friend.

It takes a special kind of fail to do that.

Not really, you see it once in a while in the business. Just the work of an inattentive tech worried more about making rate and/or wanting to get that next big job. The downside of flat rate or heavily commission based pay plans.

I THINK I figured out how they did this. They must have had the pad cocked in the caliper and when the brakes were applied the first time it grabbed the unlubed backing plate and wadded it up. I know you have all moved on But this has been bugging me.

yea having the pads seat in the caliper evenly is kind of important as I guess you jsut found out. The pad is still good though, just take off that metal shim. you can make your own if your really worried about it.
