Swift.... 3rd times the charm? Or is that a curse?

OK... so since the electrical meltdown at PD some time back, I finally got the energy to tear into the critter yet again. Found some broken wires, found some smoked pins, found a melted underhood fuse box....So I am now again on the hunt for parts.

Couple pics of the interior out:

ANd this one... that melted black spot is what is supposed to be the 60A main fuse. Instead they rewired it (terribly) with a 40A.

Oh, and I almost forgot, I found I now need a new combintation switch as this one is melted. They used speaker wire to solder onto the back side to make a new ground. No lie.

Well, I've pulled the remnants of the hacked radio wiring, hacked combo switch wiring, and pulled the underhood fusebox. Need to finally breakdown and buy a good multimeter to check the inside fusebox and make sure it isn't fried as well. THe plugs off the combo switch are fubar'd, so I am trying to locate it and a fusebox used.

Also found out I have (had) the I5 ECU, for Cali cars. THis thing was hobbled from the get go. still haven't found the 100% source of the shorts. more tracing. Have I mentioned how much I despise wiring?

Any way to get replacement (new or used) factory harnesses? I used to use junkyarddog.com back in the day to find stuff, but I don't know if its still useful.

funny thing abuot that harness.... it's fine. THe harness off the switches is fried, but it's part of the new switch, so that's not so bad. Already have a couple of people with parts I'm getting prices on. It really looks worse than it is.

And no Will, it's not time to become a lemming. I will go with a FOx body mustang in SM before I go to a civic.

Oh, andI found out why I was so lean. It was running the I5 California ECU. Not sure WHY as it was a Federal emissions car according to the stickers. The replacement is an F3 Federal ECU on it's way from Virginia this week.

Personally if I wanted small, nimble, good gas milage and no rust, I would own a Mini. However, I want space, fun to drive, loud as fuck, forced induction, hood scoop, and AWD.

Since you got it that torn apart I would start tracing wires and find what you don't need. You could probably pull 10lbs off the car in wiring. I know foxbodys wiring harness are for multiple vehicles with multiple accessorys. You can pull close 30lbs of a fox body.

^ That and the fact.... what is there in this car to get rid of? No airbags, no a/c, no power windows/doorlocks, no power steering, no fancy power seats, no sunroof..... this car is already empty.

possibly.... just in time to tear the head back off and get it fixed.

Wife asked "Why don't you just replace every wire in the car.... I brought her out to it and pointed. She mumbled something like "nevermind"

Bob, serioiusly, if you need help, let me know. I'm no stranger to wiring issues (I worked for Cadillac for God's sake!) Wiring is my home away from home.
