Oh yeah - this was a cell phone shot in Naranjito- this is where they filmed portions of Fast5 (where they jump on the rooftops). Iflew here too - as well as the Moscoso bridge near Fajardo, PR where the bridge scenes were shot. There were lots of neighborhoods built on hills like this - i'd call this a shithole - but walking around the plaza area was good food friendly people. If you have GoogleEarth, here are the coordinates: 18 18 00.35, -66 14 44.47

1. That's awesome. Just out of curiosity, how did you score this gig? Did they see your vids online and contact you or did you put it out there and advertise your services?
2. What does the sign say that you are looking at? It's blown out a little and I can't read it on my phone. 3. Really looking forward to the vids and other locations. 4. How was it traveling with rc planes? Was it a hassle?

The edit I sent them was not useable for marketing purposes bc it's too aggressive - LOL. They replied "great vid! Can you come back and fly slow and stable?" So then the talks began about my rates. I went back and flew Sky Valley a second time. Signed the release, and they own the raw unedited footage. If they want me to edit it, then its also another fee. 2. The sign isn't what I was looking at in the pic - I was looking at the locations of power lines - a 90mph 5 foot wing clipping a line and crashing on the street in the main tourism district wouldn't have been a good look for me so I always do site surveys before I fly urban. I sent the PR Division of Tourism a different video and they were interested in bringing me over for some work. (i did my research, and aerial video via a pilot, plane, fuel, camera man is VERY expensive. They have to contact air traffic control, and it's rediculous costs). We discussed rates and went from there. They have me coming back in May. I have yet to make an actual demo-reel for what I can do - I am saving that for this spring/summer to maximize the color in the shots. 3. I'll get to the PR edits after my next trip (Rio) - which will be in s couple of weeks. 4. Normally for stateside travel I take 1 plane. But for this I wanted to appear as a professional instead of a kid w/ a kool plane (i am actually a kid with a ool plane - LOL), so I sent 1 plane out to the hotel ahead of time US Mail. I traveled with one as well. This ensured that no mattter what I would be able to operate when I got there. This also provided a backup if I smacked my plane into something. PR Tourism Division paid for * air travel * plane expenses * hotel * rental car for 4 days (fuel costs) * flat rate for showing up on site (regardless of weather - not my fault if they hire me on a rainy day) * then the footage (per minute/hour) * rate for editing (so far they have not hired me to edit the footage for them) The TSA was very interested in me checking the rig and the spare lipo packs. They checked it out but then let me onboard w/out much hassle. The box for "Downwind" (my main rig) is 62"x32"x6" - a total of 100" - BARELY scrapes by the 115" maximum. It costed them $300 to ship the plane (ONE WAY) as an oversized item. Rather than have them pay $300 for the return trip - I mailed the rig back USMAIL for $54 insured for $2000.00 My answer for this is reducing the size of the planes for international travel. I am building 2 48" planes (MUCH smaller than the 60") - the custom cardboard box will qualify as a standard checked baggage so no additional fees. This increases my bottom line and also makes it to where more customers can afford to hire me from abroad. Last edited by Baby J; 02-16-2012 at 07:19 PM. |

I won't make a million - but I can get paid to have fun. It's the ultimate. There are about 4000 guys on the planet that do this. But - 90% don't have long-range or HD capability. Out of the 10% that do, 90% of those have no interest in the commercial potential. Then of those that DO, some can't travel. As u see - the numbers of people who can really be hired to pull off HD aerial video successfully is very slim. I can think of about 10 guys I'd call other than me. So it's DEFINITELY something to get into - even if just for fun.

Picking locks is a hobby right? I had done a lot of it just for fun and wanted to see how hard it would be to steal a semi.. Well I got the getting into and starting the truck to under a minute and you figure another 4 to build air to roll.
![]() Its almost comical how easy it is once you've done it a few times. None of them have chips for the ignition. The only one that I have found that cannot be quickly picked and started is a newer mack with the flat key..

So my buddy Trappy did a USA Road Trip - and of course brought some planes with him. While he's getting "soft" on the stick (not as risky as he used to be) and has more editing tricks than aggressive flying, he always puts out a good video. enjoy my friends...

This one is a kit I built for Ivy Tech.. I have a much larger 'true' homebuilt machine 'at home' haha. I purchased the mechanical bits as a kit from Zen Toolworks .. I then proceeded to modify the crap out of it so I could see 60" per minute rapid speeds. All the motor driver and spindle control hardware is of my design. The software used is EMC2 from LinuxCNC.org

Oh yeah, If anyone needs any small and soft machine work done (Table size is 12"x6"x3") I can do material hardness up to aluminum (prefer not to) Mainly extending this for people who need 2.5d milling. 3D is doable I just don't have the time to do all the CAM work.
Things like switch panels, circuit boards, negative mold foam cuts (casting), delrin or other plastics designs, RC parts, dick rings, name plates, wood engraving.. lemmeknow |
