So ... What are your other hobbies??

Well - for me, I'm back into RC. Only this time - in a totally different way. Cars has kinda taken a back seat.

I'll explain - out of boredom I went and purchased a Hobbyzone Champ RC plane. I flew before work - at lunch - evenings. I was happy - KINDA. LOL. But me being me, hopped up the motor to a brushless (mo powa) setup. I then had the idea to put a cheap ass 808 Camera (keychain camera from eBay - 8g card - up to 3 hours of audio/video weighs in @ 5 grams) and the results were - well, I'll show you. In this video I was up about 800 feet (video gets clearer after I get over the clouds).

I was really thinking I stumbled upon something new - so I was posting vids of my neighborhood - flying over lakes - downtown ATL, etc. People started emailing me through my youtube page asking "how is your FPV rig setup." After googling - I realized that "FPV" is "First Person View" - and was MUCH different than what I was doing. What I posted was a camera attached to a plane - I flew the plane LINE OF SIGHT only - video footage was recorded on-board, and viewed LATER. More like aerial photography. What the BIG boys were doing is true FPV - where you fly the plane w/ a LIVE video downlink to your location as you watch (through goggles or a monitor) w/ a a view as if you were IN the plane. The difference - well, 1 you can fly an RC plane up to 40 - 50 miles away from where you are at the time w/ a LIVE view.

Yes you need a HAM license (bc you are broadcasting) - I got mine after 1 hour of studying the online tests.. but MOST people do not have their HAM license. I'll just leave you with this and YOU decide if it's something you wanna get into : (make sure you select high definition)

THIS IS WHY I ORDERED THE GoProHEro HD camera ----------------------> http://vimeo.com/10242248 After seeing this I just knew that after people started recording in HD then my videos will suck.

QUADCOPTER

So - I have a Hobbyking ASW28 glider, and a Multiplex Twinstar2 FPV rig. So far I have no DVR for recording as I have just got my rigs up less than a month ago. But I have ordered a GoProHero HD camera to strap to the Twinstar 2 so I can record live back to the ground.

I've got $120 in my plane, $300 in a DragonLink UHF transmitter, and about $800 in FPV gear (500milliwat 2.4ghz video transmitters/receivers).

I've got a 20mile capable setup but I'm still new so I haven't been out more than 4km (8km round trip). That's what I'm into - what about you guys?

PS - this is the guy we all hate - he's in Austria and is one of the pioneers of FPV flight. In this flight video he only flies 9km (5.6 miles)... but he holds the long-range record of 43 KILOMETERS!!! I have no desire to fly that far away - but just an idea of how captive this shit is Click below.

I don't quite have the write up that you have, but my new hobby is shooting shit. I recently hit up a Friday night steel match and became addicted quickly. There is a bowling pin shoot a week from Saturday that I would like to go to.

Be careful in that. Couple years ago, we threw down on a 1900 farm house, "party house" sooo many bacterias and shit. Ambestis (spelling), mold, lead paint, etc.

Djing primarily. Got into it through Raves back in the mid 90s. Been at it sinec 1995. I was fortunate to get in on the ground level of the electronic music scene in the midwest so I made a lot of connections with folks who would go on to manage clubs, run nights, etc. all over the area. Through those connects I've been able to play regularly around Indy at different club nights and one-off music events. I have played in :Cleveland, Columbus, Cincy, Dayton OH; Louisville &Covington KY; Detroit and Chicago a few times all at pretty big electronic nights. Locally I'm a resident at Juxtapoze on Tuesday Nights at The Melody Inn playing at least once a month. I've also recently been inducted into Indy Mojo/G9's roster so I'll be playing probably monthly at Altered Thurzdaze at The Mousetrap and their one-off shows on Fridays and Saturdays at Tru in Broad Ripple. I've been pushing a lil harder again lately trying to score gigs since it's winter time again. If you know club promoters have em give me a shout!

Several of my Mixes can be found on induceonline.com in both the live and studio mix sections.

Personally if I wanted small, nimble, good gas milage and no rust, I would own a Mini. However, I want space, fun to drive, loud as fuck, forced induction, hood scoop, and AWD.

Ive been playing guitar on and off for a 9 years. I quit playing a while during my last year of college. Other than that i like to build useless electronic gadgets.

where do you guys go fly the rc planes at? theres a group locally that does it but the $100 that they charge for the 1 acre of corn field that someone threw grass seed on isn't worth it in my mind and i've been trying to find somewhere different to fly.
